Project management
Project management is designated for company managers, project leaders who intend to introduce modern project management standards and effectively employ project activities in strategic tasks seeking; for everyone whose work is related to projects and who is concerned about projects success.
Concept of project and the main factors which influence the emergence of project as a modern work organization method are presented.
- Project and strategy of organization.In order to control a certain purposeful activity as a project it should be separated from other activities performed in the company. Therefore the role of project is analysis in relation to company strategy implementation and by defining the hierarchy of project related goals. There is also presented project typology with indication of management peculiarities specific to each project type. Project management is defined as a complex which involves three major processes - planning, organization and total control.
- Detail planning of projects.
After defining the project planning the main issues concerning project duration management and scheduling (network charts making, critical path method, PERT method, resource distribution) are discussed. - Project environment.
People and groups related to a certain project have different expectations with regard to the project. These expectations are expressed by their interests. The management goal pursued by concerned parties is successful harmonization of these interests. Another important aspect of project organization environment is the type of management structure specific to the company where projects are implemented. Therefore the influence of different management structure on the project success is analysis. - Administration and project team formation.
Project success to a great extent depends on the project leaders. Their main task is to organize as soon as possible individuals under their supervision into effectively functioning teams whose members seek for common goals. Assumptions of successful project management are analysed taking into account both manager and team members; roles and functions in the project implementation. - Creation project budget and risk management.
This section deals with finance of projects by paying major attention to budget formation. Costs estimation methods which are used in projects planning as well as costs control methods which are applied during project implementation are analysed. Different aspects of project risk management are discussed. - Project assessment and strategic application.
Project selection is based on the estimation of expected benefit. Projects in their essence are generally related to innovations (i.e. to the creation of new products, systems or services), therefore it is difficult to envisage what benefit can be expected. Thus specific project assessment methods are analysis and their application examples are presented in order to assist companies in the selection of right assessment criteria for implemented projects so that effective investment policy is formed.
